Recently I was looking for a reliable podhost for my German video podcasts. I compared four different hosting providers, two from Germany and two from the US.

The advantage of podhosts in comparison to webhosts

Webhosts usually offer a static amount of storage space. I know, some companies offer unlimited data and transfer, but if you really stress their system they will usually kick you.

Podhosts are different, because the storage space renews every month. So if you have a plan with 100MB/month, you can potentially upload 1200MB every year. Usually PodHosts can actually offer something like a traffic flatrate, because podcasts files aren’t dynamic and can be saved on different servers. [click to continue…]

Recently I wrote about a Mac OSX security flaw on my blog and then I got a lot of DMs via twitter ( http://twitter.com/germanstudent ) saying that Mac OSX is absolutely save. No exception…

I really don’t like the escapiest view of some Mac users.

Then I remembered listening to Security Now with Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte a short while ago http://www.twit.tv/sn215

Steve is a reputable security expert and I think this shows quite good that even Macs aren’t invulnerable.

So the next time anybody states “my Mac is completely safe” I will send him/her this video.

Over and out! :)

Selling digital content online will play a very big role in the near future.

In fact it does already. When you take look at Zynga for example, an online gaming publisher, located in San Francisco, which makes estimated $100 million revenue this year, mainly with facebook and MySpace apps, you know what I’m talking about.

PayPal – Expensive but widely accepted

PayPal is very well known around the globe. But when it comes to micropayment it’s very expensive. So expensive, that some vendors, like the well known app store for jailbroken iPhones Cydia, chose to charge an extra fee for using PayPal. [click to continue…]

It looks like World of Warcraft gamers in China have to look for another free time activity, soon.

According to the General Administration of Pres and Publication (GAPP) Natease, the company which is selling World of Warcraft in China, has to stop accepting new accounts and stop charging existing costumers.

Public authorities discordant

It seems like public authorities can’t decide who is responsible. In opposite to the GAPP, the Chinese ministry for culture, has previously decided to allow Netease to sell the game in China. [click to continue…]

It’s almost impossible to keep track of all twitter iPhone clients out there. So I took a deeper look into the iPhone twitter world.

Originally planned as a podcast for my German audience only, I compared and discovered so many apps, that I thought I could give this blog a kick-start by translating and enhancing the information. [click to continue…]

A new blog is born

by Markus

Welcome to my brand new tech blog! My name is Markus and I’m enthusiastic about starting this site!

So what is this blog about?

This blog is mainly about the internet. haha. Well, I try to cover social media and tech news, if this is somehow possible. Additionally I want to write longer HOWTO articles with a lot of screenshots to show how software or things on the web work. I’m always happy about suggestions.

You are important!

And that’s not just a flowery phrase! Of course I don’t know you yet, but what is a website without its visitors? I hope I can connect to a lot of you guys!

You can subscribe to the feed or via E-Mail. There are buttons on the right sidebar.

I hope to see you soon at GeekyWebNews.com

Markus
